Celebration of Everyday Objects - Paper Cup

The object that I as given to celebrate was the Paper Cup.

History

In the early 20th Century it was common for people to share glasses at public wells/water pumps. This however, caused many public health problems.
In 1908 Lawrence Luellen invented the "Dixie Cup" known previously as the "Health Kup" (Yes that's Cup with a "K"). Shared cups were then banned and disposable cups became more popular. So basically the paper cup was developed to stop the spread of germs.

Celebration Ideas

From my thumbnail sketches and research of the cup itself, I developed the idea concept of making a water feature/fountain out of a variety of paper cups. This idea I felt showed off the Paper Cups most salient attribute the best. It being a disposable container that is mostly used to hold water. The fountain conveys these qualities the best. The disposable cups being reused in a sculptural yet functional piece that also uses water.
